Dr. B. Shivashankar did his under graduation from Hubli and Post graduation from Solapur. After additional training in Mumbai, Birmingham UK, and Stuttgart Germany, he is practicing in Solapur at Iyer Orthopaedic Centre, since 1993, which is an ISO 9001: 2008 Certified Hospital.
Dr. B. Shivashankar has excelled himself in the field of Orthopaedics. He is known for his innovative works in the field of Orthopaedics all over the country. He has developed many special newer techniques and instruments in orthopaedic surgery and has named all of them by the name “Solapur”. Some of them his innovations are
Dr.Shivashankar’s name is synonymous with Interlocking in India. He has passion for teaching this by simplifying the technique and is known as interlocking man all over India. He has conducted more than 500 workshops and live demonstrations all over India on various interlocking techniques at many places both small and big like Agra, Aurangabad, Barielly, Belgaum, Bilaspur, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Eluru, Kuppam, Kota, Mumbai, Panaji, Pune, Sambhalpur, Silchar, Vishakapatnam, etc, etc. He has conducted live operative demonstrations at places from Chandigarh in north to Chennai in south, From Mumbai in west to Silchar, Assam in east.
He was one of the trio instrumental in formation of NAILS or the National Association of Interlocking Surgeons a subspeciality of Indian OrthopaedicAssocation. In the past he has been secretary of this association and he was the president of NAILS in 2008-09. He gave the prestigious Presidential Oration of NAILSCON at Kolkatta in 2010 and He was the Oragaising Secretary of NAILSCON 2016 at Solapur, which was a tremendous success and one of the finest Organised scientific meet.
He has been a very active executive committee member and was incharge of Grievance Cell and Scientific Committee of Maharashtra Orthopaedic Association. Then he was the vice President of Maharashtra Orthopaedic Association in the year 2012-13 and he was the President of Maharashtra Orthopaedic Association for the year 2015 -16.
He has been faculty for state conferences of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Uttaranchal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat , Rajasthan etc.He has been the faculty for the National Conference of Indian OrthopaedicAssociation , Trauma Society of India, NAILS, etc regularly since 1998.He was a special invitee and Faculty for the SAARC annual conference at DHAKA in 2005 where he conducted two workshops and gave guest lectures. In October 2012 he was faculty for the International Orthopaedic Conference APOA or Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association’s annual Conference at Delhi.
At the UP Orthocon 2015 at Moradabad in February 2015, he delivered the prestigious Dr.T. P. Srivastava Varanasi Oration”. And recently on 15th October 2016, he has delivered the Late Dr. T.P Srivastava Lecture of Varanasi Orthopaedic Club and also conducted Live PFN A2 Surgery Demonstration at Banarus Hindu University, Varanasi. He will be delivering the prestigious Dr S S Chaudhari Oration at Aurangabad on 5th of November 2016 at the State Conference of Maharashtra Orthopaedic association.
He has written many chapters in various books and journals mainly related to interlocking nailing technique. His operative techniques have been demonstrated in over 20 different CDs. Which many follow all over India.
Social Organisations:
He is an active Rotarian and has conducted over 700 free surgeries in many African countries like Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, Ethiopia, etc through Rotary International. He has also conducted many polio surgical camps in Uttar Pradesh in places like Hapur and Rampur.
He is an active member of Computer Society of India, Solapur Chapter and in the year 2010-11 he was the Chairman.
